I've been to Scotland once - and don't anticipate going back again. A quick glance at Alinco’s new dual band DMR handheld DJ-MD5 shows many similarities to the AnyTone 878 radio: similar size, similar general layout, near identical display icons, display layout and menus, and the Alinco CPS programming software looks & feels the same as the AnyTone CPS. Current price for the AnyTone AT-D878 varies, and at time writing it’s around 185-220 Euros, or 200-230 US Dollar in the US, and can be purchased from most popular amateur radio shops. I ended up taking one of them - I've forgotten which now - and pruning it heavily. This results in an enormous codeplug which I find difficult to use because it takes forever to navigate through it from the radio control panel. They are of the kind which list virtually every permutation of repeater and talk-group - plus loads of other channels such as the PMR446 and Marine VHF channels. The codeplugs from both Moonraker and Martin Lynch are reasonably up-to-date and pretty comprehensive. I don't know how old or accurate it is but it might help you get started Ken

If you must have a radio then the Anytone 878 really is a good radio, excellent battery life but code plugs are a real pain and you're better off to program in a local repeater and just use a hotspot if you travel to save endless days of programming for each repeater.
